Food Chains - A food chain is how energy and nutrients travel from one organism to another in the ecosystem. The number of “links” in a food chain can vary but the food chain always starts off with a producer and ends with a consumer and the chain size can also vary depending on how many organisms live in the area. - A food chain can give just give two links like a blueberry bush and a bear, while other ones can have many links and become very complicated like a ladybug, then a robin, after that a hawk, next a fox, right after that it could be a wolf, then a bear and the list can go on… but with every single thing on the earth something needs it to survive and it will always create “links”. - A producer may be eaten by a herbivore (primary consumer), which is then eaten by a carnivore (secondary consumer). In some cases, another carnivore (tertiary consumer) eats the first carnivore like in my very big example of the food chain.
